David Sibley on the Winter Crow Roost!

Dec. 1, 2023: As we start the 7th year of monitoring, documenting, and counting the Winter Crow Roost in Lawrence, we continue to receive a growing number of communications looking to know more about the roost. It is a source of great fascination and an amazing avian spectacle!

This afternoon a reporter from GBH News in Boston sent an email and then called to get the scoop on the Winter Crow Roost in Boston. He had recently finished an an online ZOOM program interview with David Sibley.  The show was a fascinating conversation about bird migration. As many of you may know, David Sibley is the author and illustrator of the series of successful guides to nature that bear his name, including ‘The Sibley Guide to Birds.”

A well informed viewer, Margie posted a question about the Winter Crow Roost. The interviewer, GBH News reporter Craig LeMoult, serving as the the host and moderator for this event, was very excited to get David’s take on this roost and what it is all about! The roost discussion ending up taking over 3 minutes with great insights from David Sibley!

David has contributed to Smithsonian, Science, The Wilson Journal of Ornithology, Birding, BirdWatching and North American Birds and The New York Times. He is the recipient of the Roger Tory Peterson Award for Lifetime Achievement from the American Birding Association and the Linnaean Society of New York’s Eisenmann Medal. A member of the Nuttall Ornithological Club, he lives and birds in Massachusetts.
